SASBE2009 will be the biggest event in the European region on sustainable building and development before 2011. With our motto we aim at a positive, proactive approach to sustainability in the built environment, via different disciplines and on different scales.
We invite everyone — academics as well as private and public parties from the market — to join us in presenting solutions rather than problems at SASBE2009.

16 july 2009 SASBE2009 REPORT AVAILABLE

SASBE2009 AWARDSAwards
It was both fun and worthwhile to have four simultaneous competitions running during SASBE2009, giving all the honour to participants who performed extraordinarily. There were many good contributions but only one could win in each area. The winners of the awards given during the closing sessions can be found here.

18 june 2009 SASBE DAILY NEWSPAPER AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD
On every day of the congress a newspaper was made and spread; these newspapers are now available at daily.sasbe2009.com.

5 june 2009 ticket SINGLE DAY TICKETS AVAILABLE FOR THE 16TH OF JUNE
For the Tuesday 16th of June, during which the official opening session will take place (including keynotes by Dirk Sijmons and Ken Yeang, and the opening speech by Crown Prince Willem-Alexander), special single day tickets can be purchased. SPECIAL SREX SESSION ON LOW-EX PLANNING
On Thursday morning, 18th of June, Commission Room 3 will host a special session moderated by the SREX research team.windmills SREX stands for Synergy of Regional Planning & Exergy. Guest expert Sven Erik Jörgensen will deliver an invited speech, followed by lectures covering topics as exergy, energy potential mapping, energy landscapes, urban agriculture, energy cascading, underground and potentials.

DRI & SUA We are very happy to announce that SASBE2009 has found a main sponsor: the Delft Research Initiative (DRI) Environment, the interdisciplinary organisation for research on issues concerning the (built) environment, based at TU Delft. ROOM FOR FIVE EXTRA PARTICIPANTS IN THE PHD WORKSHOP
For SASBE2009 a special PhD program is being arranged for PhD candidates. This program consists on a two-day workshop prior to the conference week and some special activities during the conference days. The workshop starts on Sunday 14th of June afternoon with a session on methodology for study and research and on Monday 15th a visit to Rotterdam inspirational projects is being arranged.

27 May 2009 Smart Building in a Chainging Climate SMART BUILDING IN A CHANGING CLIMATE IN PRINT!
After a thorough process of selecting from the best SASBE2009 papers, adding special contributions by e.g. Ken Yeang, and editing the manuscript, the Techne Press book Smart Building in a Changing Climate is now ready and in print. It will be launched and sold for a reduced price during SASBE2009. Contributors to the book will of course receive a free copy.

COMBINED TICKET SID - PROVADA
Registrants for the Sustainable Industry Day (SID, 17th of June) will receive a free ticket for PROVADA, our latest partner. This also applies to delegates who already registered for the SID. PROVADA is the Dutch real estate fair, taking place in the RAI Conference Centre in Amsterdam from 16 to 18 June. With this collaboration, SID delegates who attend SASBE2009 on Wednesday 17th can pay a visit to PROVADA on Tuesday or Thursday, an interesting combination.

SUSTAINABLABLA!?
At SASBE2009 Stylos, the student society of the TU Delft Faculty of Architecture, will organise a workshop on Wednesday 17th of June with this fascinating name. It is especially meant for Bachelor and Master students, with a special 1-day fee, and includes a lecture by Prof. Anke van Hal.

18 May 2009 Lightshelf SPECIAL MEETING ‘SUSTAINABILITY IN BUILDING CONSTRUCTION’
ISO/TC59/SC17 will hold a special open meeting on Wednesday June 17th from 14:00 to 17:00. The meeting will provide an overview of the ISO activities and products on sustainability in the construction sector, and permit an open debate on a guidance document in progress for helping the sustainability general principles to be practically implemented in a construction project.

DELFT SUPPORTS BIKES AT SASBE
We are happy to announce that the municipality of Delft has joined our list of sponsors.Bike taxi Delft financially supports the use of bikes and bike taxis during SASBE2009. For those who do not know the old city: bikes are the fastest means to travel in Delft, and the most sustainable way too. Bikes will be distributed among full registrants during the welcome drinks on Monday 15th of June and need to be handed in after the closing sessions on Thursday.

7 May 2009 FINAL CALL FOR EARLY REGISTRATION AND PUBLISHING AGREEMENT
Yesterday the deadline for the cheap early bird fee ended. However, with the conference office we agreed that until tomorrow, 8th of May, 5PM, final call you will have the LAST CHANCE to register for this fee.
Please note: if you want to have your paper published in the conference proceedings (whether awarded an oral or poster presentation, does not matter), you need to have registered and submitted your signed publishing agreement by 15th of May. As notified earlier, some of the best papers will be published in the book Smart Building in a Changing Climate. Your publishing agreement and registration is necessary for selection.

27 April 2009 competition FINALISTS OF THE CIB STUDENT COMPETITION ANNOUNCED
The CIB Student Competition, on sustainable solutions for energy-producing living areas, has resulted in a wide range of good-quality contributions from all over the world. A Top 5 has been selected with solutions for different scales: from an energy-neutral and food-producing new city to an algae facade that produces hydrogen for electricity, heat and fuel. All finalists will present their plan at SASBE2009.

20 April 2009 Winy Maas WINY MAAS AT ROTTERDAM CLIMATE INITIATIVE SESSION
Famous Dutch architect of MVRDV Winy Maas has confirmed to lecture during the special session organised on behalf of the Rotterdam Climate Initiative. This RCI session will address the approach to climate change by big cities. It will be held on the afternoon of the Sustainable Industry Day (17th of June).

17 April 2009 ORALS AND POSTERS
All authors of scientific papers have been notified about the verdict about an oral or poster presentation at SASBE2009.
Poster Presentation Oral presentations will be scheduled in the scientific parallel sessions. Posters will be exhibited during the three conference days and presented briefly in a special poster session on Thursday morning 18th of June. All authors will be notified about the exact day and time of presentation.
All papers, either orals or posters, will be published in the conference proceedings. Please keep in mind that posters — in order to be included in the conference proceedings — need to be submitted digitally by 15th of May.

13 April 2009 SECOND PAPER REVIEW ROUND RESULTS
The results of the second paper review round have been sent on Thursday, April 9th. If you haven’t received them, contact us!

9 April 2009 Early Bird EARLY BIRD REGISTRATION PROLONGED UNTIL MAY 6TH
With a little delay, all authors of scientific papers will be notified today about the final decision about their paper acceptance for an oral or poster presentation. In relation to this, the early bird registration can be arranged until the 6th of May.


SID MARKET PRESENTATIONS SELECTED
12 high-quality proposals for the Sustainable Industry Day have been selected for presentation at SASBE2009. They were divided into four categories. ‘Architecture’: UIA Americas, Except and Paul de Ruiter Architects; ‘Engineering’: ARUP, BuildDesk and Movares; ‘Technology’: University of Canberra, Ingreenious and Abolin Co.; and finally ‘Vision’: BBA Indoor Environment, Oranje Demolition Company and Brink Group.

We're happy to announce that SASBE2009 chair Andy van den Dobbelsteen has been appointed professor of Climate Design & Sustainability at the faculty of Architecture!

7 April 2009 Wicked Problems WICKED PROBLEMS AND SWARM PLANNING
Climate change is seen as a complex and long-term problem, interconnected with lots of other issues. Such a ‘wicked problem’ is difficult to integrate in planning and design processes. Therefore, climate proof regions require another planning and design approach. SASBE2009 will host a special session on June 16th, afternoon, on wicked problems and the ‘swarm planning’ dealing with them. For more information click here.

30 March 2009 Best Papers BEST PAPERS TO BE PUBLISHED IN TECHNE PRESS BOOK
All authors of scientific papers will be notified about the final verdict around the 6th of April. Techne Press will publish a book containing the best SASBE2009 papers that fit the title “Smart Building in a Changing Climate”. This book will be launched and sold during the conference (contributors will receive a free copy).
Authors of the best papers selected for the book will be notified briefly after the final review verdict and be asked to submit good quality images, when applicable. If you do not wish to be included in the book, please notify the SASBE2009 chair, Andy van den Dobbelsteen (andy@sasbe2009.com).


LAST CHANCE TO SUBMIT SID PROPOSALS
Today the deadline ended for Sustainable Industry Day (SID) presentation proposals from the market. We received various interesting, good quality submissions. Public and private parties have a last chance to submit their proposals until April 6th. Proposals are to be sent to industryday@sasbe2009.com.

25 March 2009 Sir David King SIR DAVID KING LECTURES AT SASBE2009
We are proud to announce that Sir David King, former advisor on climate change to the British government, will give a keynote speech on Wednesday 17th of June, during the Sustainable Industry Day (SID) of SASBE2009. Sir David is renowned for his knowledge of climate change and known from provoking publications such as The Hot Issue. With Sir David, the full line-up for the plenary programme of the SID is known: Michael Braungart, Wubbo Ockels and Sir David King. For more details of the conference week schedule click here.


CIB STUDENT FINALISTS ANNOUNCED ON THE 7TH OF APRIL
The CIB student competition on energy-producing living environments yielded submissions from all over the world. The preselection jury states that quality of ideas is very high, making the selection of five finalists a challenge. On April 7th these finalists will be announced. They will get the opportunity to present their elaborated plan at SASBE2009. For more information on the CIB student competition click here.

9 March 2009 Industry Day SUSTAINABLE INDUSTRY DAY PROPOSAL DEADLINE MARCH 30
Wednesday 17th of June will be the Sustainable Industry Day, with keynotes by Wubbo Ockels and Michael Braungart and amongst others a special session on cities and climate change, hosted by the Rotterdam Climate Initiative. Public and private parties from the market are invited to submit a proposal for presentation at SASBE2009. We will honour the best proposals. Deadline March 30th!

Student Competition CIB STUDENT COMPETITION SUBMISSION
We received numerous contributions from various countries for the CIB student competition. In general, the quality of these submitted plans is very good, which will make the jury work difficult. The five finalists will be announced on April 6th

Papers FINAL PAPERS NOW SUBMITTED
The 8th of March was the deadline for the second round of scientific papers, which were revised on the basis of the reviewer's comments. In total we have around 160 papers to become an oral or poster presentation, and around 40 posters, which were decided on already in the abstract stage.
